Bill to stop regulation on resale of event tickets passes through Utah Senate committee

A bill to limit regulations on reselling event tickets passed unanimously through the Senate Business and Labor Committee Tuesday.

Sen. Deidre Henderson, R-Spanish Fork, said SB69 is meant to ease restrictions on consumers that prevent them from transferring or reselling tickets, or dictate specific ticket platforms for resale. Henderson said this is a discriminatory behavior that is not consumer friendly.

“(The bill) requires ticket issuers to issue freely transferable tickets, prohibits ticket issuers from penalizing consumers who elect to transfer their tickets on the ticket website or through the methods of their choice (and) provides a specific set of exemptions to allow flexibility to ticket issuers while continuing to protect Utah fans,” Henderson said.
